The super-guide to Plan Your Destination Wedding in Tuscany with a spot on wedding venues

I captured a magical wedding in Tuscany at one of the Tuscany wedding venues. Are you ready to explore my personal journey?

Ciao amici! I’m Emiliano Russo, and if there’s one thing I adore as much as photography, it’s helping couples create memories that are every bit as magical as a Tuscan sunset. I’ve been fortunate enough to capture so many beautiful love stories here in Tuscany, and now I feel like sharing some of my experiences, tips, and insights with you to make planning your Tuscan wedding a breeze. Tuscany is a dream, and I’m here to be your guide as you navigate the journey to your big day.

Why Tuscany is the “Painted” Wedding Destination

Tuscany is like a romance novel and a paint at the same time. Friendly people with their culture will embrace you, and as background you’ll see: Rolling hills, iconic cypress trees, ancient villas, and sunsets that seem to paint the sky in vivid hues of orange and light pink. This is my ideal colour palette.

When I first came to Tuscany, I remember photographing a wedding at a vineyard just outside of Siena—there was something about the golden light filtering through the vines that made everything feel like a dream. I am in love with light pastel colours. Tuscany’s magic lies in its blend of natural beauty, historic charm, and that warm, relaxed Italian vibe. You will find the perfect setting here, If you dream of a rustic grapeyard wedding or a luxurious villa ceremony. There is something suitable for every couple actually.

Best Season to Get Married in Tuscany

This could be the first question you might ask for: when should I get merry there?

Tuscany is stunning year-round, but each season brings its own unique charm. Spring is like Tuscany waking up, with blooms everywhere and temperatures that are just right. I remember a wedding in May, where we were surrounded by fields of poppies. It was such a colorful backdrop for photos! Summer weddings are bright and lively, but keep in mind it can get quite hot, especially in July and August. Fall is my personal favorite: harvest season brings golden hues to the wine estate and cooler weather. Yet, rain might be right back to the corner…Winter can be magical too, with an intimate atmosphere and fewer tourists around.

I always advise couples to have a backup plan, just in case. A sudden summer storm can actually be incredibly romantic, as long as you’re prepared. I was in a wedding where it started to drizzle just as the ceremony began, and the couple took it all in stride. We ended up with some of the most beautiful, atmospheric photos.

Five Types of Wedding Venues in Tuscany beyond Florence with some highlight

This Italian hilly Region offers so many incredible venues that fit all kinds of styles and preferences. Let me take you through the five main types of wedding venues you can find.

Historic Villas: best for couples who want a classic, refined wedding with a touch of Italian aristocracy

For me, historic villas in Tuscany are all about that irresistible blend of “wow” and intimacy. I love the way these places have character, with each corner telling a story, like in all the Chianti, Maremma and Val d’Orcia area. Walking through a villa’s halls, with frescoes above and the scent of Tuscan gardens drifting in, I feel connected to history. These are the venues that inspired me, capturing moments against a backdrop that make feel so little so human. It’s the timeless elegance, the manicured gardens, and the soul of these estates that I think really bring out the best in every celebration.

Castles: For Those dreaming of a regal, storybook wedding in a majestic setting

What I love most about Tuscany’s medieval castles is how they carry you back in time. These castles sit atop hills, offering some of the most breathtaking views I’ve ever seen. Every time I’m at one of these venues, I feel like I’m stepping into a piece of living history. Some even have little chapels for those intimate religious ceremonies, and the courtyards are perfect for open-air receptions under the Tuscan sky. It’s the kind of place that makes every moment feel epic yet personal.

Rustic Farmhouses (Agriturismi): Ideal for couples seeking a laid-back, simple and dreamy wedding immersed in nature and tradition

What I absolutely adore about Tuscan farmhouses is the way they offer a real escape, so authentic, warm, and beautifully connected to the landscape. When I find myself at one of these charming spots, surrounded by winery and olive groves, there’s this wonderfully relaxed vibe that puts everyone at ease. And the food? Oh my goodness, it’s simply amazing! Fresh farm-to-table meals and local wines straight from the grapeyard create simple, honest flavors that remind me exactly why I love this place. These lovely venues truly capture the heart and soul of Tuscany, making them ideal for couples looking to celebrate in a laid-back and genuine atmosphere.

Luxury Resorts and Spas: for Couples looking for a modern, glamorous wedding with all-inclusive services

In my opinion Tuscany’s luxury resorts and spas are all about embracing the best of both worlds: luxury and the natural beauty that surrounds you. I’ve spent time in these stunning places, and what really stands out is how effortlessly they blend modern comfort with the classic Tuscan vibe. Infinity pools with views of rolling grape planation, incredible food made by some of the finest chefs, and that feeling of complete relaxation make me fee a better person! These venues make every moment feel special, not just for the couple but for everyone involved. I love how they provide that touch of glamour while staying true to the Tuscan spirit.

Vineyards and Wineries: For wine enthusiasts and couples desiring a unique yet intimate celebration surrounded by nature.

What I love about Tuscan winery is the way they blend romance with a laid-back charm. For me, there’s nothing like capturing a wedding set against rows of grapevines, with the sun dipping behind the hills, painting everything in that beautiful golden light. The barrels, the smell of the earth, and the taste of those incredible wines. It’s an experience that feels so authentic and real.

Designing Your Tuscan Wedding Theme

Now you know that it is all about blending into the natural landscape. Soft earthy tones, lush greenery, and rural yet elegant decor all complement the surroundings perfectly. I love when couples incorporate local elements, like olive branches, lemons, or even simple terracotta pots. One couple I worked with chose a color palette inspired by the Tuscan sunset: burnt oranges, soft pinks, and gold accent It was such a stunning tribute to the landscape.

Of course, while it’s essential to honor the beauty of Tuscany, I always encourage couples to let their personalities shine through. After all, this is a celebration of love, and it should reflect who you are as a couple. Quirky table centerpieces and a signature cocktail that tells your story can make a big difference. These personal touches truly enhance the experience.

Let’s say you are a couple who loves cycling. They might display vintage bicycles decorated with flowers as part of their decor. Alternatively, a couple who enjoys wine could create a tasting station highlighting local wine estate. You can weave it into your celebration and still capture that classic Tuscan vibe.

A typical wedding spans over a few days, and trust me: it’s worth every moment. I usually recommend starting with a welcome dinner, a laid-back evening under the stars. On the big day, the ceremony is often timed to catch that golden hour light, followed by a dinner that stretches into the night, with long tables and endless laughter. Post-wedding, a farewell brunch with fresh pastries and coffee can be the perfect way to wrap up the celebration.

Yet, if you don’t know how to start the next step would be hiring a wedding planner, especially if yours is not a very small celebration or it is not an elopement. If you are thinking to have many guests at your wedding, the first step should be: hiring a professional planner

Why trusting your preferred photographer in the selection of the wedding planner in Tuscany will make the difference?

If you’ve already fallen in love with a photographer’s work, I can completely understand why! Their ability to capture moments that speak to your heart is a rare gift. Now, imagine pairing that talent with an event planner who understands how to optimize those beautiful lighting conditions that make those photos shine even brighter. This is where my passion for planning comes in!

As someone who prioritizes light in every detail I design, I know how crucial it is to choose the right time of day and location for your wedding. Chianti, as well as other areas in Tuscany has some of the most breathtaking views, and the golden hour is nothing short of magical. We all know that. When you trust your photographer, they will help you choose the right planner. This planner will be part of your team and will understand how to create a cohesive vision. They will ensure that every element works well with the natural light.

A wedding is a collection of memories. With my photography and the planner I can suggest you, we’ll capture every moment beautifully. I’ll create a timeline that respects the light, ensuring you’re in the perfect glow for cherished images, from the first look to the last dance.

In short, let’s work together to ensure that your special day isn’t just remembered for the vows exchanged, but also for the stunning way it’s captured. I can’t wait to help you bring your dream wedding to life, all while creating memories that sparkle!

Legal Requirements for Getting Married in Tuscany

Here an experience Tuscany wedding designer is crucial.

You have three types of ceremonies to choose from: civil, religious, or symbolic.

  • Civil ceremonies are often held in charming town halls—like the beautiful Palazzo Vecchio in Florence.
  • Religious weddings, especially in Catholic churches, require some additional planning and paperwork, and they are absolutely wonderful for those who dream of a traditional setting.
  • If you want a ceremony that tells your unique story, a symbolic wedding is the way to go—fully flexible and personalized to suit your vision.

Hiring Local Vendors in your destination wedding in Italy

Finding the right vendors is key to making your wedding perfect. Tuscany is full of talented event planners who really understand the local vibe, which makes everything run more smoothly.

THE CELEBRANT

In case you are having a symbolic ceremony, choosing the right celebrant is something to pay attention to. The celebrant sets the tone for the entire event, so it’s essential to find someone whose style and values align with yours. Look for a celebrant who is experienced, personable, and willing to incorporate your personal stories and preferences into the ceremony. Don’t hesitate to ask for references or previous ceremony examples to ensure they can create a meaningful experience for you and your guests.  You know why the celebrant is important. What about the other vendors?

THE FLORIST IN YOUR DREAMY WEDDING VENUE

Florists here are amazing too. I’ve worked with some who seem to know every wildflower that blooms in these hills. And, of course, a wedding feast is legendary.

When planning a successful wedding, communication between the planner and the florist is very important. When they work together closely, they can make sure that every floral detail fits well with the event’s theme and vibe. If you choose the florist before the planner, it can limit creativity because the florist’s ideas might not match the overall wedding vision.

Nowadays, many couples first pick their photographer, then the planner, and lastly the florist based on the planner’s advice. While this might make sense, it’s crucial to remember that flowers and decorations play a key role in enhancing the wedding’s look and feel.

In short, viewing the wedding as a work of art where each vendor contributes is essential. A strong partnership between the planner and florist can make each wedding special and unforgettable. And let’s not forget the fantastic Tuscan feasts! The combination of flowers, photography, and great food can create an amazing atmosphere, making the wedding day truly outstanding.

LOCAL CUISINE

I always recommend my couples embrace the local cuisine: rich pasta, dishes, fresh produce, and the best wines you can imagine. Trust me, nothing makes for happier guests than incredible Tuscan food! Yet talking about how your guests will be impressed by the Tuscan fresh flavours is so obvious!

MAKEUP AND HAIR

So let’s talk about makeup and hair: This aspect of the wedding is just as important as any other element of the day. It’s essential that the makeup reflects the couple’s aesthetic sense.

If the makeup artist is late, it can throw off the entire wedding schedule, as they are typically the first professional to arrive in the morning when everything begins. A well-timed and skillful application can set a positive tone for the day, while delays can create unnecessary stress. Therefore, when selecting a makeup and hair professional, it’s important to prioritize quality and reliability to ensure everything runs smoothly on your special day.

Bur do all of these wedding elements and vendors have a sense without music?

One popular wedding venue in Maremma is Castello di Vicarello, a 12th-century castle turned boutique hotel surrounded by olive groves and vineyards. The castle’s romantic setting is ideal for intimate ceremonies or elopements. Meanwhile, La Pescaia Resort offers another luxurious option for a wedding in Maremma with breathtaking views overlooking the sea – perfect for seaside weddings or receptions under the stars.

WEDDING MUSIC FOE EXCLUSIVE WEDDINGS

Music plays a vital role in weddings, including those held in the beautiful region of Tuscany. In such a picturesque setting, the right music can enhance the ambiance, evoke emotions.

In Tuscany, couples often choose a blend of traditional and modern music to reflect their personalities and the romantic spirit of the location. Hiring a string quartet can be a lovely choice for the ceremony, as the classical sound pairs beautifully with the stunning surroundings of winery, rolling hills, and historic villas. For the reception, a live band or DJ can bring energy and joy, encouraging everyone to dance and celebrate the special occasion.

Additionally, incorporating local music styles, such as Tuscan folk tunes or Italian classics, can add a unique touch to the wedding, providing an authentic experience that reflects the culture of the region. Couples might also consider professional singers or musicians who can perform specific songs that hold sentimental value for them, making the day even more personalized.

As for the question of whether a wedding without music makes sense, the answer is generally no. Music is often considered one of the essential elements of a wedding celebration. Without music, the atmosphere can feel flat and less engaging, taking away from the overall experience.

TRASPORTATION AND ACCOMMODATION

For your guests, getting to Tuscany is part of the adventure. Whether they fly into Florence or Pisa, it’s all about the journey through the scenic countryside. One thing I always suggest is arranging group transport for your guests, especially if your venue is tucked away in the countryside. And vintage cars make for such memorable bridal entries. I still remember the sight of one of my brides arriving in a classic Fiat 500, smiling ear to ear.

Budgeting for a Tuscan Wedding

Weddings in Tuscany can vary in cost depending on the scale and the season. One of the best tips I can give is to consider off-peak months, like late spring or early fall, which can be more affordable and still absolutely beautiful.

To keep spending under control, it’s helpful to prioritize what’s most important to you as a couple. For some, the photographer might be the top priority because capturing those moments is priceless; for others, it’s all about the music and creating an nice atmosphere.

Once you know what really matters, allocate more of your budget there, and then find creative ways to save on the other aspects. For example, you could opt for simpler decor if having a live band is crucial for you, or perhaps choose a smaller cake if food and wine are where you want to splurge.

Always remember to budget for the little things, like transport for vendors or extra decor items. These details add up, but with a good planner, you’ll have fewer surprises.

It’s no wonder that Tuscany is consistently ranked as one of the top wedding destinations in the world and a place where dreams do come true.

Absolutely! Tuscany is perfect for intimate weddings. I’ve seen some of the most beautiful, cozy ceremonies take place here, whether it’s a small villa gathering or an outdoor celebration in a winery. The charm of Tuscany really shines through in these smaller, heartfelt events, and the focus becomes all about the connections between those closest to you.

Prices can go from 30.000 € to 150.000 €. Costs can vary quite a bit depending on your vision, but there are ways to make it work for many budgets. One thing I always say is to decide on your priorities, whether it’s the photographer, venue, or amazing food and invest the most in what matters to you. For instance, I’ve worked with couples who put most of their budget into live music, while others focused on an incredible photographer. By making smart choices, you can have the Tuscan wedding of your dreams without breaking the bank.

For a marriage in Tuscany, think comfort meets elegance. The weather here can vary depending on the season, but it’s usually warm, so lightweight fabrics are a good choice. I’ve seen brides looking absolutely radiant in flowing dresses that complement the countryside, and grooms in relaxed linen suits that are both stylish and practical. For guests, I always suggest comfortable shoes. Think about those charming cobblestone streets or garden paths you might need to walk along…

Of course! Most venues are more than happy to share photos, and I always encourage couples to take a look. Seeing past weddings really helps you picture how your day might unfold. Plus, as a photographer, I’m always excited to share images from previous weddings I’ve captured. Those stunning sunsets over vineyards or the intimate beauty of a villa ceremony make all the difference in visualizing your big day.

Planning a multi-day wedding here is all about creating an experience that flows naturally. I love it when couples start with a welcome dinner, maybe something casual like pizza night or a local wine tasting. Then, you’ve got the big day itself, timed to catch the stunning golden hour light. To wrap it all up, why not have a farewell brunch the next morning? It’s a wonderful way to savor those last moments with your loved ones before everyone heads home. A good planner can help make sure each event feels special and seamlessly organized.
