START PLANNING YOUR WEDDING IN AMALFI COAST

When you think about the Amalfi Coast, what is the first thing that comes to your mind? Is it the scent of lemons carried by the sea breeze, the way the pastel houses of Positano seem to cling to the cliffs as if by a miracle, or that deep, shimmering turquoise of the Mediterranean? For me, being an Amalfi Coast photographer isn’t just a job; it is a way of life. I spend my days chasing the light as it dances over the jagged rocks of Ravello and the narrow alleys of Amalfi, trying to catch those fleeting moments that tell the real story of your journey.

So many people come to this coastline and leave with thousands of photos on their phones, only to realize later that they aren’t actually in any of them, or that the shots don’t really capture how it felt to be there. That is where a holiday shooting in Amalfi comes in. It is about more than just posing for a camera; it is about creating a visual legacy of your time in Italy, a set of images that feel as real and vibrant as the memories themselves. Whether you are planning an Amalfi coast elopement or just want to celebrate a special trip, I want to help you see the coast through my eyes.

The Soul of a Holiday Photo Session on the Divine Coast

When we talk about a photo session, I don’t want you to think about stiff poses or forced smiles. My philosophy is all about the “in-between” moments—the way you laugh when the sea spray hits your face on a boat, or that quiet glance you share while walking through a lemon grove. The Amalfi Coast is a vertical theater, and every corner offers a different stage.

Hiring a professional photographer for your holiday is one of the best ways to turn a great trip into an unforgettable experience. Local knowledge is everything here. You see, the coast is beautiful everywhere, but knowing where the light hits the Duomo in Amalfi just before the shadows take over, or finding that one hidden terrace in Positano where the tourists aren’t crowding your frame, makes all the difference.

I always tell my couples that my goal is to document their “state of mind”. When you look back at your pictures years from now, I want you to feel the warmth of the sun on your skin and remember the positive vibe of the day. This isn’t just about technical skills; it is about the human touch and the connection we build during our time together.

Positano: The Dream That Never Ends

Positano is, without a doubt, the pearl of the Amalfi Coast. It is a vertical city built on the face of a cliff, where every street leads to a new discovery. For a holiday shooting in Positano, we have to be smart. It is one of the most photographed places in the world, which means we have to find ways to make your story stand out.

Walking Through the Vertical City

We usually start our journey at the top or along the main road, like Via Cristoforo Colombo. This road gives you that iconic, panoramic view of the colorful houses cascading down to the sea. But I also love the smaller, quieter spots. Have you ever walked down Via dei Gladioli? It is a residential street that offers a bird’s-eye view of the town, far away from the busiest crowds.

The stairs in Positano are famous—and they are a workout! But they are also incredibly photogenic. I like to use the leading lines of the staircases and the way the bougainvillea frames the paths to create depth in your photos. We might stop at a colorful fruit stand along the way, where the bright yellows of the lemons pop against the blue of the sea. It is these little details that add texture to your holiday narrative.

The Magic of Spiaggia Grande and Beyond

Eventually, we make our way down to Spiaggia Grande, the main beach. In the morning, the light illuminates the village from the side, creating beautiful contrast. If you want those classic shots with the colorful umbrellas, we have to wake up early—around 7:00 AM—to beat the heat and the crowds.

But don’t just stop at the main beach. A short walk along the path carved into the rock takes us to Fornillo Beach. It is a bit more secluded, with a different perspective of the coastline and small boats bobbing in the water. This is a great spot for more intimate, relaxed portraits where you can really just be yourself.

Ravello: Elegance Suspended Between Sea and Sky

If Positano is the theater, Ravello is the sanctuary. Located high above the coast, it offers a level of peace and quiet that is hard to find down by the water. It is one of my favorite places to work as a Ravello wedding photographer because the light here is softer and more diffused.

The Gardens of a Fairytale

No holiday shoot in Ravello is complete without visiting the gardens of Villa Cimbrone and Villa Rufolo. The “Terrace of Infinity” at Villa Cimbrone is truly breathtaking—it feels like you are standing on the edge of the world, with the Mediterranean stretching out forever beneath you.

I love using the architecture of these villas—the medieval cloisters, the ancient arches, and the shaded pathways—to create an ethereal atmosphere. The umbrella-shaped pine trees and the church domes in the distance create a composition that is both timeless and deeply Italian. It is the perfect setting for couples who want a more sophisticated, romantic feel for their images.

The Quiet Charm of the Piazza

The heart of Ravello is the Piazza Vescovado, a beautiful square where life moves at a slower pace. I often capture my couples just walking through the square or stopping for a gelato. There are no cars in the historic center, which allows us to wander freely and find those hidden corners that most tourists overlook. The light here stays golden longer because we are so high up, giving us more time to play with the shadows and the warm tones of the stone.

Amalfi and Atrani: A Journey Through History

Amalfi is the town that gives the coast its name, and it is a place filled with history and drama. As a studio, we often suggest starting here if you love old-world charm and grand architecture.

The Grandeur of the Duomo

The Cathedral of Saint Andrew is the iconic symbol of Amalfi. Its grand staircase and striped facade are a masterpiece of Arab-Norman style. I love shooting from the bottom of the steps with a wide lens to capture the full scale of the building. Inside the Cloister of Paradise, we find a completely different vibe—tranquil, symmetrical arches and a play of light and shadow that is simply beautiful.

Atrani: The Secret Gem Next Door

Just a short walk from the center of Amalfi is Atrani, the smallest town in Italy. It is often overlooked by the big tour groups, which makes it one of my favorite “secret” spots for a holiday shooting.

Atrani feels like stepping back in time. The houses are stacked together along the shore, and the narrow alleyways are filled with the scent of laundry drying in the sun and local life humming along. The beach here, framed by the iconic bridge of the coastal road, offers a unique architectural background that you won’t find anywhere else on the coast.

Why You Need to Get Out on a Boat

If you ask me what the most magical experience on the Amalfi Coast is, I will always say: seeing it from the sea. A boat tour changes your perspective completely. From the water, you can truly appreciate the dramatic scale of the cliffs and see hidden coves and sea caves that are impossible to reach by land.

Your Private Studio on the Mediterranean

When we do a holiday shooting on a boat, it becomes our private studio. There are no crowds, no busy streets—just you, the horizon, and the sound of the waves. I love using traditional local boats, like a wooden gozzo, because they have so much “soul” and look beautiful in photos.

We might sail past the Li Galli Islands, where legend says the Sirens lived, or head toward the Fiordo di Furore to see that incredible bridge from below. The way the light reflects off the water and onto your faces during the “Golden Hour” is something you just can’t replicate on land. It is pure magic.

Chasing the Two Sunsets

One of the secrets I share with my couples is the “Two Sunsets” of the Amalfi Coast. Because of the high cliffs, the sun often “sets” behind the mountains early, putting the towns in shade. But if we are on a boat, we can stay in the light much longer, catching the actual sunset over the horizon. This gives us a much longer window of that dreamy, warm light that makes everything look like a painting.

What to Wear: The Mediterranean Aesthetic

I get asked all the time: “Emiliano, what should we wear for our shoot?” My answer is always: wear what makes you feel beautiful, but keep the environment in mind. The Amalfi Coast has a very specific vibe—relaxed but luxurious, what we call “Mediterranean Chic”.

The Linen Philosophy

Linen is the king of the Mediterranean. It is breathable, it moves beautifully in the breeze, and it has a texture that catches the light perfectly. I suggest soft, muted tones that complement the colors of the coast—whites, creams, sandy neutrals, or soft blues. These colors allow your connection to be the focus, rather than a distracting pattern.

The Shoes Dilemma

This is the most important tip I can give you: pack comfortable shoes. Positano and the surrounding towns are filled with steep steps and uneven cobblestones. You don’t want to be struggling in high heels while we are trying to capture your love story.

My advice? Wear a pair of stylish, flat sandals or even some clean, leather sneakers for the walking parts of our session. You can always bring your favorite heels in a bag and pop them on when we get to the perfect spot for a photo. Trust me, your feet will thank you!

Timing and Light: My “Visual Logistics”

I don’t just show up and start clicking; I manage the reality of the day so the photos feel like the dream you envisioned. I map the sun’s path against the cliffs of Ravello and the beaches of Positano.

The Golden Hour vs. The Blue Hour

We all love the Golden Hour—that window of soft, warm light just before sunset. It makes the skin look luminous and gives the whole coast a magical glow. But I also love the “Blue Hour”—the 15 to 20 minutes after the sun has gone down.

This is when the sky turns a deep, royal blue and the lights of the towns start to twinkle like little jewels on the hillside. It is the perfect time for those romantic, cinematic shots that feel a bit more intimate and mysterious.

Why Sunrise is Worth the Early Alarm

If you want to have the coast to yourself, we have to wake up with the sun. Sunrise in Amalfi or Positano is a peaceful, ethereal experience. The streets are empty, the air is cool, and the light has a soft, pinkish quality that is just gorgeous. It is the only way to get those wide shots of the famous landmarks without hundreds of other people in your frame.

Planning Your Milestone Moment

Whether you are here for an Amalfi coast wedding planner consultation or a quick vacation, a photo session can be the highlight of your trip.

Surprise Proposals

If you are planning to pop the question, you need a photographer who knows how to be a ghost!. I work closely with you to plan every detail—the exact spot, the cue, and the timing—to make sure the surprise is perfect and the moment is captured forever.

We might plan a “paparazzi style” shoot where I am hidden in the crowd, or we can arrange a private terrace or a boat where you can have total privacy. After she says “yes,” we usually do a short engagement-style session while the emotions are still raw and beautiful.

Elopements and Intimate Weddings

More and more couples are choosing the “luxury of pure intimacy” with an elopement. I love these sessions because they allow us to really take our time and explore multiple locations. We might start with a ceremony in a historic villa, then take a vintage car to a coastal viewpoint, and end the day with a sunset boat ride. It is a complete sensory experience where your love becomes art.

Finding the Right Venue

If you are just starting to plan, I can help you find the Best amalfi coast wedding venues that fit your style. From luxury hotels like the Belmond Hotel Caruso in Ravello to the iconic Il San Pietro in Positano, there are so many incredible places to stay and celebrate. Each venue has its own light, its own texture, and its own photographic potential.

My Approach: Why Choose Me?

You are likely doing a lot of research, looking at different photographers and platforms like Flytographer. What makes my studio different is that we don’t just “take pictures”—we create an experience.

A Human Connection

I believe that photography is more connected with the human touch than technical tricks. My style is a mix of contemporary fine art and natural storytelling. I want you to feel comfortable and relaxed around me, because that is the only way to get those authentic, emotional shots.

I work with a small, talented team to ensure the highest quality of service and delivery. We treat every holiday shooting as if it were a high-end editorial for a magazine, because your memories deserve that level of care and attention.

Local Expertise and Precision

I don’t operate on hope; I operate on precision. I know the shortcuts through the narrow arteries of Positano so you stay cool and composed. I know the 15-minute window when the light is perfect for the wedding in Amalfi Coast of your dreams. I am your logistical consultant as much as your photographer.

The Best Time to Visit

While you can visit the coast year-round, the seasons definitely change the photographic possibilities.

  • Spring (April-June): My personal favorite. The wisteria and jasmine are blooming, the light is soft, and the towns are waking up after winter.
  • Summer (July-August): It is hot and busy, but the energy is electric and the sea is at its most vibrant turquoise.
  • Fall (September-October): The “Golden Hour” is longer, the sea is still warm, and the crowds begin to thin out.
  • Winter (November-March): For those who want a quiet, moody, and deeply authentic experience of the coast.
