For most of my American couples, the wedding isn’t just a single day; it’s a journey for their family and friends. Spreading the celebration over three days allows everyone to relax and truly connect with the culture.    

• Day 1: The Welcome Pizza Party There is no better way to break the ice than with a wood-fired pizza oven and a few bottles of Chianti. It’s casual, joyful, and lets people settle in after their flight. From a photographer’s perspective, this is a golden opportunity to capture those first hugs and candid moments of excitement without the pressure of a formal schedule.   
• Day 2: The Big Day I always suggest a calm morning. While the girls have breakfast and start hair and makeup in the villa, the guys often spend time by the pool. I recommend scheduling the ceremony for the late afternoon when the light becomes soft and golden. Following the “I do,” guests move to the garden for an aperitivo, followed by a long-table dinner “al fresco.”    
• Day 3: The Farewell Brunch A relaxed morning by the pool with local pastries, fresh fruit, and endless espresso is the perfect way to wrap up the bubble of the weekend. It’s a time for final goodbyes and sharing memories from the night before before everyone begins their journey home.

Making it Legal: The Paperwork for US Citizens

To have a legally binding civil wedding in Italy, you’ll need to prepare several documents, including your US Passport, birth certificates, and the “Atto Notorio”—a declaration stating there are no legal obstacles to your marriage. You’ll also need a “Nulla Osta” from the US Consulate in Italy.   

Many of my couples find it easier to do the “paperwork” wedding in a quick ceremony back home and then have a beautiful symbolic ceremony in Tuscany. This gives you total freedom to choose any location—like a secret olive grove or a terrace with a view—and personalize your vows exactly how you want them.  

Aesthetic Trends for 2026

If you’re planning for the coming seasons, we’re seeing a shift toward deeper, more soulful colors. While pastels will always have a place, “Mocha Mousse”—a rich, chocolatey brown—is becoming the “it” color for weddings.
