Positano Wedding Planner

Positano is the most complex place on the Amalfi Coast to coordinate a wedding. The town is vertical, built on a steep cliff between the Lattari Mountains and the sea. The historic center is closed to cars. There is no loading dock, no service entrance, no way to pull a truck up to the door. Flowers, tables, chairs, linens, sound equipment, cakes, and ice sculptures all go up or down hundreds of stairs on someone’s shoulders. If one delivery runs late, the entire setup shifts.

At Ravello, the challenge is the pedestrian center and the noise ordinance. At Positano, the challenge is gravity itself. A Positano wedding planner is not a nice-to-have. It is the reason the day works or does not work.

Our studio has been based on the Amalfi Coast since the early 10’s. Most people know us for photography, but over the years the planning side grew naturally: couples kept asking us to help with logistics, vendors, and coordination because we were already on the ground and knew everyone. Today, our team includes dedicated planners who handle elopements and micro weddings directly, and for larger celebrations we partner with established planning firms who share our standards. The result is the same either way: every detail is managed by people who know Positano personally, not from behind a screen in another city.

Stairs, Porters, and Hidden Elevators

This is the section that no other wedding website will give you, and it is the single most important logistical factor in a Positano wedding.

Between the main road at the top of the town and the Spiaggia Grande at the bottom, there are roughly 300 to 400 steps depending on which route you take. Between most hotels and most ceremony venues, there are at least 50 to 100. In July heat, in formal clothing, carrying a bouquet or a suit jacket, those steps add up fast.

We plan the route for every person involved. For the bride: which path, which shoes for walking (heels stay in a bag until the ceremony), where to stop and change, where the private entrances are. For elderly guests or anyone with mobility concerns: which hotels have elevators carved into the rock (Le Sirenuse and Hotel Marincanto both do), which stretches can be covered by golf cart, and which alternate routes avoid the steepest sections.

For everything else, there are the porters. The local porter services in Positano are the backbone of every event in the town. They carry luggage from the car drop-off to the hotel, floral installations from the delivery van to the terrace, the wedding cake from the pastry kitchen to the reception table, 200 steps up, with nothing but muscle and experience. We coordinate every porter assignment: how many people, what time, which items, which route. If a delivery arrives at the wrong entrance, we reroute it before you even know there was a problem.

Transport: By Land and By Sea

By road: the SS163 Amalfi Coast highway is narrow, winding, and one lane in each direction for most of its length. No full-size bus can drive it. For guest transport, we use sedans and minivans, and we stagger arrival times to avoid bottlenecks at the few drop-off points in town. Parking in Positano is nearly nonexistent, and every spot needs to be reserved in advance. We handle all of this.

By sea: ferries from Naples and Salerno dock at Positano’s pier in summer, and private tender boats can be chartered year-round. Bringing your guests in by boat is practical (it avoids the road entirely) and spectacular (they arrive seeing the town from the water). For welcome events or day-after excursions, a boat is also the fastest way to reach Capri, the Faraglioni, or the bay of Ieranto.

On the wedding day itself, we coordinate the full transport map: which guests leave which hotel at what time, who goes by car, who goes by boat, and how everyone arrives at the venue together within the same 15-minute window. In a town with no parking and limited road access, this choreography is what separates a relaxed arrival from a chaotic one.

Welcome Events and Pre-Wedding Days

This is where Positano has an advantage that Ravello cannot match. Ravello is quiet and elegant, but it closes early and the options for nightlife or beach events are limited. Positano has bars on the sand, restaurants with terraces over the water, and a social energy that keeps going well past midnight.

Most of our couples plan at least one event before the wedding day, and we handle the logistics for all of them.

Welcome dinner on the beach: Franco’s Beach Club on the Spiaggia Grande, or Rada Restaurant with its wide terrace over the sea. Both seat groups comfortably and give your guests their first real taste of the coast. For something more intimate, Da Adolfo at Laurito beach is reachable only by boat, which makes the arrival itself part of the experience.

Boat party: charter a large gozzo or a small yacht, pick up your guests at the pier, and spend an afternoon cruising the coast with drinks and music. We coordinate the captain, the catering on board, and the timing so that everyone is back in town with enough time to change for the evening.

How We Structure the Planning Process

We structure the planning as a single continuous process from the first call to the last guest leaving, rather than dividing it into “full planning” and “day-of” tiers. Every wedding in Positano requires deep logistical coordination regardless of size, and the distinction between those two categories blurs quickly in a town where a delivery delay at 10 AM can derail the entire afternoon setup.

The process starts with a detailed video call where we discuss your vision, your guest count, and your budget. From there, we handle:

• Venue selection with in-person visits (we walk into every space, check the sight lines, test the light, count the stairs).
• Vendor sourcing and negotiation: catering, florist, musicians, hair and makeup, celebrant, lighting, rentals.
• Guest logistics: hotel room blocks at negotiated rates across Positano, Praiano, and Amalfi, with a booking link and a deadline so guests know where to stay and how to get there.

Elopements and Micro Weddings

For celebrations of 2 to 25 guests, our in-house planners manage everything directly. The scale is smaller, but the logistical complexity of Positano does not shrink with the guest count. You still need someone who knows the porters, the permit process for beach ceremonies, and which terrace loses its light at 5:45 in September. Our internal team handles venue booking, celebrant, florals, hair and makeup, restaurant reservations, and day-of coordination as part of an integrated package with our photography services. Planning starts at 3,800 euros for this tier and scales with guest count, the number of vendors involved, and how many days of coordination you need.

Larger Weddings

For weddings of 30 guests or more, the production and vendor coordination become a full-time operation. For these events, we partner with established planning firms who specialize in large-scale destination weddings on the Amalfi Coast: Linda Gatto, Francesca Fiore, Carolina Spezzano, Happy Brides, and Sinphonia Weddings. We have worked alongside each of them for years and trust their execution, their vendor relationships, and their ability to handle the specific pressure that Positano puts on every timeline. Our photography and planning teams coordinate directly with theirs, and the couple gets the benefit of two experienced local operations working in sync.

Why Generic Vendors Don’t Work Here

Positano is not a place where you can hire a generic vendor and hope for the best. The physical constraints of the town require people who know how to work here specifically.

The florist needs to design installations that can be carried up stairs in sections and assembled on site, and that do not block the sea view from the terrace (a common mistake). The caterer needs to know that some venues have their own kitchen (Le Sirenuse, Hotel Marincanto) while others require external catering that arrives on porters’ shoulders with no access to a service elevator. The musicians need to understand the noise dynamics: sound travels differently in a vertical stone town, and what sounds like reasonable volume on a terrace can echo off the cliff face and generate complaints from three hotels away.

Timing Your Planning

How far in advance should we start planning?

For the top venues in Positano, book 14 to 18 months ahead. September dates go first. The photographer and the planner should be locked in at the same time as the venue, especially if you want a team that works together regularly. If your timeline is shorter, we can still make it work, but some venue and vendor options may already be taken.

Can we organize a welcome dinner on the beach?

Yes. Franco’s Beach Club and Rada Restaurant both host group dinners on or near the sand. Da Adolfo at Laurito is reachable only by boat and provides a completely private beach dining experience. We handle the reservation, the menu, and the guest transport. Costs vary by venue and group size, but a welcome dinner for 30 guests typically runs between 3,000 and 6,000 euros including food, drinks, and coordination.

How do you get guests around if there are no cars?

We combine road transfers (sedans, minivans) for the drivable sections with porter services, golf carts, and hotel elevators for the pedestrian areas. On the wedding day, we build a detailed transport schedule: which guests leave which hotel at what time, which route they take, who needs extra assistance. Bringing guests in by boat from Salerno or Amalfi is also an option that avoids the coastal road entirely.

Do you work as planners only, or also as photographers?

Both. Our studio started with photography and expanded into planning because the two services are deeply connected in a place like Positano. When we plan and photograph the same wedding, the timeline gets built around the light from day one, not adjusted later. If you only need planning, that works too: we collaborate with external photographers regularly. And if you only need photography, our planning partners handle the coordination side.

What is the cost difference between Positano and Ravello?

Positano typically costs 15 to 20 percent more than an equivalent wedding in Ravello. The reasons are logistical: everything is carried by hand, parking and access are more limited, and the demand for Positano venues keeps prices higher. For a micro wedding of 10 to 25 guests, expect 30,000 to 50,000 euros total. For 30 to 60 guests, 60,000 to 90,000 euros. What happens if it rains?

Every venue in Positano has indoor or covered alternatives, and we build a Plan B into the timeline from the beginning. Rain on the coast tends to pass quickly. If a ceremony needs to move indoors, we execute the backup plan without you having to make a single phone call. The venues we work with are used to this, and the transition is something we rehearse mentally for every wedding we coordinate.
