Capri Wedding Cost: A Real Budget Breakdown

A bride emailed me last winter asking for one number. Not a range, a number, the kind she could write into a spreadsheet and stop thinking about. Why Capri Costs More Than the Mainland Coast

Every category below carries some version of the same premium: Capri is an island, everything arrives by boat, and there’s no way around that fact once you’re pricing out a wedding here rather than in Positano or Ravello. A florist’s delivery that’s a ten-minute drive on the mainland becomes a hand cart from the dock on Capri. A caterer’s supply run becomes a ferry booking. None of this is exploitative pricing. It’s the actual cost of doing business on a piece of rock in the Tyrrhenian Sea, and it touches every line item that follows.

I sat with a groom once who wanted to understand exactly why a caterer’s quote included a line item simply labeled “transport,” a few hundred euros that didn’t exist on any mainland quote he’d seen for a friend’s wedding. It took a phone call to the caterer to get the honest answer: two extra staff hours built in purely to manage loading and unloading a boat, time that a van pulling up to a mainland venue’s kitchen door never requires.

Venue Costs

Capri’s ceremony and reception venues don’t publish a standard rate card the way some mainland hotels do, and the range is genuinely wide depending on the property, the season, and whether you need a full buyout or a shared space for a smaller group. A private terrace or villa rental for an intimate ceremony typically starts in the low five figures for the space alone, climbing well past that for a full luxury hotel buyout or a large reception at a property like Punta Tragara. Catering, Priced by the Guest

Catering is typically the largest single line item after the venue, and it scales directly with headcount in a way few other categories do. Industry guidance for a Capri-level luxury wedding suggests budgeting no less than roughly 1,300 euros per guest for the wedding day itself once venue, food, beverage, and basic production are factored together, a figure that reflects the island’s overall cost structure rather than food alone. For a wedding of 30 guests, that benchmark alone points toward a day well into six figures once everything is included. For a smaller, more contained elopement-style event, the per-guest math works differently, since fixed costs get spread across far fewer people.

A bride once asked me to help her understand why cutting her guest list from 50 to 35 didn’t reduce her catering quote by the proportional amount she expected. The venue’s minimum spend, it turned out, stayed fixed regardless of headcount below a certain threshold, which meant the savings from fewer guests were smaller than the simple per-person math suggested. The Boat Ride Behind Every Floral Quote

Flowers on Capri face the same delivery premium as everything else, and the gap between local, seasonal material and anything flown in from off the island shows up quickly in a florist’s quote. Bougainvillea, lemon branches, and whatever’s actually in season locally cost meaningfully less than out-of-season imports, and a florist who works the island regularly will steer you toward what’s genuinely growing there that month rather than defaulting to a generic palette that has to arrive by boat regardless of season. A modest ceremony arrangement and a handful of reception centerpieces sits at the lower end of a typical floral budget; a large custom installation, an arch, elaborate hanging arrangements, climbs well beyond that once the material itself has to be sourced and transported specially.

I watched a florist talk a couple out of peonies for a September wedding once, gently but firmly, because the flowers simply weren’t in season anywhere nearby and the cost of flying them in would have eaten a meaningful chunk of the entire floral budget on a single flower variety. They ended up with dahlias and late-summer greenery instead, and neither of them mentioned the peonies again once they saw the arrangements in person.

Music

Ceremony music, a string duo, a solo guitarist, a vocalist, generally costs less than reception entertainment, and the acoustics of an open terrace favor acoustic instruments over anything requiring heavy amplification. Reception music scales from a DJ at the more affordable end up through a live band, and like every other vendor category here, musicians traveling to the island factor a crossing into their fee in a way a mainland gig simply doesn’t require.

Transfers and Guest Logistics

This is the category most couples underbudget, because it doesn’t exist in the same form for a mainland wedding. Every guest needs a ferry or hydrofoil ticket to reach the island, and once there, taxis, funicular rides, and luggage transfer from Marina Grande all add up across a guest list of any real size. Coordinating round-trip transfers for even a modest group, across multiple arrival days from Naples or Sorrento, is a genuine line item, not an afterthought, and it’s exactly the kind of logistics a planner earns their fee managing.

A couple I worked with budgeted zero for this category entirely, assuming guests would simply sort out their own ferry tickets, until they realized on a planning call three months out that fifty individual guests booking individually meant fifty different arrival times spread across an entire day, several of whom would land in Capri with no idea how to reach their hotel. They ended up booking a block of hydrofoil tickets and a shared luggage service at the last minute, at a real premium compared to what it would have cost booked further ahead.

Hair and Makeup

Bridal hair and makeup, including a trial, runs at a premium here for the same reason everything else does: most stylists working destination weddings on Capri are traveling in from the mainland, and that travel cost gets folded into the quote. Budgeting for the stylist’s own crossing and potential overnight stay, rather than assuming a flat mainland rate applies, avoids an unpleasant surprise closer to the date.

Legal and Ceremony Costs

For a legally binding civil ceremony, Capri or Anacapri Town Hall booking fees range from roughly 200 to 1,500 euros depending on the day and room. American couples also need a Nulla Osta, an Atto Notorio, and a sworn Dichiarazione Giurata, documents that carry their own preparation costs back home before you even reach the island. Most of my American couples choose a simpler and less expensive path: a symbolic ceremony on Capri, with the legal marriage handled quietly at home either before or after the trip.

The Costs That Show Up Late

• Accommodation. Capri’s hotels sit at a premium even by Amalfi Coast standards, and if you’re coordinating a room block for guests, that cost lives entirely outside the wedding budget itself but affects your guests’ total trip cost, and by extension, how many of them can realistically attend.
• Weather contingency. A covered backup space, whether built into your venue’s own contract or arranged separately, is worth budgeting for even in peak season, since an outdoor ceremony with no indoor alternative is a real risk on an island with no shortage of open terraces and very few enclosed ones.

Three Budget Levels in Practice

• 45,000 to 75,000 euros. An intimate ceremony or elopement-scale wedding, a private terrace or smaller villa, seasonal florals kept simple, photography and a day-of coordinator, symbolic ceremony. This is the realistic entry point for a properly executed Capri wedding, not a stripped-down compromise.
• 80,000 to 130,000 euros. A medium wedding, 30 to 60 guests, a full hotel terrace or villa buyout, custom florals, live music, full photography and planning coordination, likely a welcome dinner added to the weekend.
• 120,000 to 350,000 euros and above. A large or multi-day celebration, 60 to 80-plus guests, a property like Punta Tragara at full scale, elaborate florals, a full production team, multiple catered events across the weekend, extensive guest transfer coordination. At this level the vendor team runs into the double digits and the planning timeline starts 12 to 18 months out.
